The Art Institute of Seattle is a commercial art and design college offering many levels of higher education. Originally founded in 1946 as the Burnley School of Art and Design on Seattle's Capitol Hill, it moved to its present waterfront location in Belltown in 1986. The Library provides resource materials and professional research assistance for students and faculty across the disciplines of Culinary, Design, Fashion, and Media Arts. It has a commanding view of Elliott Bay and the Olympics mountain range, ample work space, and a basic computing lab. The Library carries a diverse collection of books, trade and industry periodicals, videos, slides, and CD-ROMs in addition to providing access to subscription databases, online image resources and sound effects collections. The library supports The Art Institute of Seattle programs and general education curricula, in addition to serving individual and extracurricular interests. The Library also serves Argosy University - a small university offering advanced degrees in psychology, business, and education. It is located on the first floor of the north campus building.
